What YOU can do

THANK COUNCIL and urge them to pass Resolution #21091300, authorizing Council to file a lawsuit against the Mayor for non-compliance of the law
Sample language:
“THANK YOU for passing the Healthy Outdoor Spaces (HOPS) Bill #200425 which prioritizes health over herbicides, creates transparency with the use of pesticides, and implements organic land management strategies to preserve the safety of public open spaces in our city.
Thanks to you, parks, playgrounds, and other public spaces in Philadelphia will not use toxic herbicides. Thanks to you, the use of pesticides will be transparent and limited wherever possible. We can now manage Philly’s public open spaces without the use of toxic agrochemical sprays, which will ultimately create more healthy and sustainable outdoor spaces in our city.
Thank you for supporting and passing bill #200425, which addresses the health of our communities at a time when we are experiencing both a pandemic and a climate crisis. You have risen to the occasion and shown it is possible and necessary t to protect the public, including people with chronic health conditions and essential workers exposed to Covid-19. Both groups happen to be disproportionately people of color.
However, they mayor in a memo following the passage of the law has declared that he has instructed Parks and Recreation to disregard the law, thereby refusing to enforce it. Much needed time to plan and train for an organic transition has been squandered, with all departments still planning to broadcast spray dangerous toxic herbicides after the prohibition comes into effect on July 28th, 2022. This resolution is the only way to bring accountability to the administration. Please pass it to ensure the proper implementation of your unanimously passed law."

Weaning off our city’s addiction to toxic herbicides does not mean our lands will not be managed at all; they will just be managed more responsibly – organically. Help us help you, as all of us are exposed and at risk.
